National Federation of The Blind appreciates FTC tackling Overlay companies.

The National Federation of the Blind has issued a strong letter supporting the FTC’s proposed consent order regarding accessiBe’s misleading accessibility claims.

The message is clear. Accessibility overlays and one line of code solutions do not provide real WCAG compliance, and exaggerated claims actively harm people with disabilities.

For public entities and libraries, this is an important reminder that true accessibility requires proper design, development, and testing with disabled users.

I encourage every director, IT manager, and communications team to understand the real harm accessibility widgets can cause. Many libraries are not aware that these tools can actually exclude people with visual disabilities or make their websites harder to use.
